Hi all,

Just finally returned from an extended stay in the Far East (No decent Marinas in Taiwan!) and have been too look at my boat.

At first couldn't find it but later noted that it was the one hiding under the slimy green covers! So I am off up there to jet wash them and am now considering if to replace them. They are 5 years old and are wrecked. The Dealer replacements are 3k and as I intend swapping it at some time soon I want a cheaper option. Do you know of decent cover manufacturers who will copy my canopy and do a good job that will not damage resale value (i.e. not look naff!) Also who should I stay clear of!

Thanks

Paul.

Hi Paul
I have just the chap for you. He is called Chris and trades as "The canvas man" resides I think in Leeds and does a lot of work for Bayliner Aquatic and Windermere Village. He has manufactured a couple of canopys for me one of them from scratch including frame and with no pattern to go off. You will find my recomendation and that of other forumites ie "Med dreamer" on previous posts. He is a thouroughly nice chap, does a great job and at a fair price. Need I say more. Phone number as follows. 01132635599
PS
When you contact him put in a good word for me cos I want a quote soon. Hope this is of help.

Regards Ian

Hang on a minute if there are any kickbacks going they should be for me, I gave Ian the Canvassmans details. Bloody cheek !!! I want a cover for when the bimini's folded (current one is a horrible beige colour we want a blue one the same as the covers)

If we are going to form a Mobo Windermere club can you make it quick cos I'm off on 9th March :-( - To the Med :)

I have heard that cleaning them with petrol is a good idea, a friend of my is a upholsterer and he gets loads of convertables in that have been left under trees with a soft top that looks like a write off. A bit of petrol and canvess cleaner and it comes up like new. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Yes Paul I look forward to that. In fact we are looking into the Village as we speak currently at Aquatic.
I beg to differ Martyn but you did not. I have used Chris for a few canopies over the years before I even joined this Forum. It was Mr Snelson that we reccomended to recently if memory serves me right. So I "WILL" have the commision thank you very much. Ha.
Anyway whats all this about beggering off too the Med. Is it for good, I hope not I was looking forward to a Windermere chapter of the forum.

What do you think of the plans for the new floating Marina at Aquatics. I saw that they are getting on with it but cannot see it being finished by Easter. I know the boat next to me has been lifted and a raggy boat from aqautics is in the spot. Clever these Marina people. Charge you for a 12 month berth, charge you for dry storage on the car park that we have paid to use and then sublet your berth!

Anyway where are the 50+ boats that were on the now gone jetties?: What do you do with 50 30ft+ boats on a lake 12 miles long?

It's a mystery......answers on a postcard

There is only one problem with the 'plans' for the new floating jetties, they keep changing. Speaking to them at the boat show it would appear the plan that is in the Toilets, no comments please, is subject to change and hence nobody will actual commit to how it is going to look.

As for where have all the boat gone, that is easy. They have gone to the other end of the marina which is normally full of speed boats and empty in the winter.

Oh Bugger I have checked the old posts and you are right it was Dave that I recommended Canvassman to. Do we have to pay you commission then?

Well I hope the Med move is fairly permanent - dont really fancy the 10mph limit so if we come back it will probably not be Windermere.

Having said that I know we will miss it so we may pop up just to wander about and may have chance to meet up then

As Jim says its all up in the air at the moment. We are hopefull that it is going to be a great improvement as long as we get a berth on the old A -D area as this is calmer water, and also the fact that we dont want to stay on our present jetty in front of The Ship. Anyway as I said we are looking into the Village as a possibility if it all goes T**S up. I would like to sound suprised at the tale of the empty berth being "sub let" as you say but I am not.

Martyn hope to see you before you begger off. And can you see my smug look from there !!

Ian
