Have confirmed with Karen at A1 Covers and Sails to go ahead with replacing the canopy on the S28, soon to be renamed "Bizzy Bee"after Deb's new Bizzyness "The Beauty Room at The Beehive". Nice for her to have a boat named after her first venture
I was going to have a few things tidied up with the existing canopy and replace some of the windows that have sun damage but I reckon I'll be keeping hold of this boat for much longer than previous boats (incredibly) so it'll be nice to get it done properly.
A couple of little mods over the standard canopy:
1. rather than a single windscreen, we're having 4 zipped panels made up instead giving the option to leave section of the windscreen in place whilst underway or at the berth. In particular, there'll effectively be new side windows (where the screen wraps around the side) that can be taken out to give ventilation if needed should the weather not be warm enough to take the canopy off but warm enough to create an oven inside the boat with the greenhouse effect.
2. more toggles to roll up the sections at the back of the canopy rather than always needing to stow in the overhead locker.
3. an extra zipped in section in the aft canopy on the stbd side to match the zipped panel on the port side. that way, the centre rear of the canopy can be rolled up leaving both side panels in place as a wind break if the wind if coming from the side whilst at berth.
I hear Karen does a stirling job and she certainly seemed to know her stuff when speaking to her on the phone. 3 flap system over the zips rather than two for example and spending the time to take a template using tarpaulin before making the actual canopy.
Will let you know the outcome. The images below show the general idea of the changes being made, red line = where the new zips will go.
