I have just bought a used Cormorant Challenger Scout. A grp fin-keeled fractional sloop. LOA 23.6' Beam 8.2'. She is an old dear, built in 1976. Although they know the purchase price, my insurers are asking for the estimated cost of replacing her with a new-build boat of similar dimensions. Does anyone have the industry knowledge such that they can give me a ballpark figure, or more likely a feasible price range?

The original layout is at the following link if it will help.

That's an unusual request. Nobody makes boats like that anymore. Insurers in UK are only normally interested in establishing replacement value and then offer insurance up to that value. So if your boat's damage costs more than that to repair they pay you the agreed amount. Current building costs are irrelevant.

The insurers are Swiss. It is for use on Lake Geneva. I am working overseas and this request was relayed to me by my wife, so I cannot say why this is required. My last boat was insured by the same people, built in 1974, I had done a great deal of improvement work on her before she was destroyed in a gale. On that occasion they were happy with a replacement value, but it may be due to the fact that a recent claim has been made for the lost boat. I will be contacting them when I get home at the end of the month to find out why they need this info.
