New boat!

Not over the line yet but getting there. I have the right kit and compounds now ?

So…..I’ve started to turn my attention to the engines now. There was a rusty jubilee clip and as I’m a bit OCD, decided to change it out. It secures the throttle body to the intake manifold via a short wide bore rubber hose.

on investigation I found the the rubber has shrunk and is pulling away from the metal part. As this is after the throttle body…..could explain rough idle. It also takes much of the throttle body’s weight with it dangling below. With much fear….I googled for a replacement. In Volvo land…..a part made of both metal and rubber would be scary money. Mercury…£65…..found new old stock for £30! I couldn’t buy a washer for that previously!

pays to be a bit OTT otherwise I would never have spotted anything wrong ??️‍♂️
How does that affect the trailer.

Poor Rodders. Sorry for giving you so much stick. I'll stop now. You got off lightly. My first operator error saw my my props on a groine (is that how it's spelt?) Folded all 4 SS prop blades like they were butter, sheared a few teeth in the gearbox of one drive too. 12k in damage but the worst of it was I had the boat in slings to give it a jetwash because it was under performing before the props were discovered. And when I say rolled like butter I mean literally. All of them. This was just a taste test, you still need to be baptised

Google , when you have a sealine on shafts with an engine room you can walk around , to polish the bilge. The only time we take bits off the engines is to have them chromed. The only thing that pisses me off I can’t get at my props to polish. So I have to join ur thread.

Groyne isn't it?

I don't mind, it'll keep me honest.

That does look pretty nasty!

You could take your props off. You don't need them!

I can’t believe that you had the cheek to go on my thread and tell me off for the way I treat my prop! Are you hiding any other secrets?‍♂️?????

Story books full. This year I replaced two turbos cos I wasn't making revs. Turned out it was the alternator only reading up to 3200 rpm max logarythmically tailing off at about 2900. Couple quid diode thingy. Want some good 2nd hand turbos? I'm an excellent fitter. I've replaced most things on the engine for shits, giggles and misdiagnosis. But hey, new engines, sort of. Making a hash of things and fixing them is how you learn with boats ?

are you serious???
so turbos were fine?
I mean didn't you check for shaft play and excess clearance from blades to body? was it all fine and you still bought new?
nice one Bruce!

You mad? You seen where my turbos live? If I have to get it off to check everything I'm gonna make it worth my while. I have to strip the engine to the block on each side and still I'm squeezing in working at horrific angles. No, If it's coming off I'm replacing the damn things so I dont have to do it again for another few years.

OK, sorry I seem to be forgetting that not all e/r are like mine where I can remove the turbo if I wish without lifting the salon floor leisurely in an hour or so with space to stretch my legs if I wish :p
so removing say the starter is not a five min job then?

My experience is that there is always room to do the jobs that don’t need doing

I have got a mate , he has an American motor home he tows a jago jeep with a jet ski sticking out the back.

port engine it's an hour or so, starboard engine it's more like a day and a half because you have to strip starboard side of the port engine to get in and then port side of the starboard engine to reach it (because keel beam prevents direct access under the aftercooler and oil filters etc
