New boat!

mind curvature on the hull in plan and 3 brackets is a definite no no! the three brackets pivot point has to be inline, plus the vertical bits on same plane, impossible imho.
what Bruce shows in #399 is brilliant and the way to do it (again imho) only issue is finding (or designing and fabricating brackets that pivot down when folding up. Very very neat!

Another idea….

2 of these per seat with the “bolt” going into the edge of 25mm ply, hole drilled through and bolt applied within the sheet which is then upholstered and flip out legs

I never realised brackets could be so boring.
Please can we have more posts about something interesting like endless hours spent sanding.
Or a webcam. That would be nice. Endless hours spent sanding, streamed by webcam.

I am buying a new 6 inch DA to start the other side…..does that make it more interesting?

Been mocking up today. Thats 14 inch high and with 4 inch foam (standard for cushions) will be at the magic 18 inch standard seat height

3 of these on the back of each seat to hook into

got to be careful as the side of the hull I’m attaching to is a liner. Downward forces should be fine. I’m the going to use the stainless L brackets Bruce linked to as fold out legs with square rubber feet on the ends. I was going to go bigger seat length wise but there’s a large locker at the front that I want to be able to stow the seats in when not in use.

I did think about going into the bow and making a full U shape but because it’s quite narrow…..you don’t really gain much. I’ll see how it looks with the seats each side and it wouldn't be too hard to add another section.

I have however decided to do another fold away seat at the stern. That’s dead flat so more L brackets used as designed this time that hopefully won’t need legs to support.

I’ll have seating for 6 at the front and 4 at the back….more than enough.

sorry don't get it!

you're going to use these three brackets, is the lining you're going to be mounting them on, STRAIGHT at the height you want?
when you fold the thing up, what happens with the cushions? Must be removed beforehand else wont be enough space to fold.
How are you going to keep the thing secured up?
how are the legs going to look like and how are they going to wobble when up?
tbh imho it will look crap! the formula mechanism would be brilliant as with a bit of fiddling you'd get the cushions/seat folding almost flat to the backrest cushion that you already have (some sort of anyway) and will look v.neat. Now ply, legs bolted with rotating mounts, straps or whatever to keep them all from moving about when folded, wont be neat at all...

me thinks you should try harder!

If the legs fold up then the seat can fold down (as long as the seat base isn’t too wide)
Three hinges on a compound curve is the problem

they are going to be fully upholstered and removable. Hook onto the pins and kick out the legs. Job done.

When done…fold up legs, lift off of the pins and put away. Theres too much curve for them to look any sense if hinged and stored flat against the gunwales.

the rear seat will be like the formula one but it’s flat and the stern section is much thicker grp to take the focused forces on the bracket bolts.

Hope that makes more sense

Make sure that after the parts are removed and stored that there is no sharp parts sticking out of your gunnel to scratch people

Mr G, just out of interest, when no one is sitting on them, how will you stop them bouncing around in a head sea?
