New Boat

Would have to be fifty litres per hour per side (100lph) for the 5ltr per mile figure....seems high but with huge engines it's no wonder it's been used WWOTand achieved poor consumption figures.

Big blocks probably explain the bow rise...do you know if they are on long jack shafts forward of the pods...?

I expect your fuel consumption will be better at 2800rpm with the bow down but tabs not dug in too far.

Great to hear that you are happy with the boat so far and look forward to hearing more as you develop your opinion. Happy days :)

Not sure how long a jack shaft would be, but the pods/engines seem to be pretty much mated together. They do a stern drive option at both D6 370 & 435 hp that put the engines even further back!!
Think i'll just need to load the bow up with beer to counteract.
I'll reset the counters and see what the boat does on our normal usage and report back. I didn't have any equipment to measure fuel consumption on the old boat with KAD300's, but had a good idea of point to point costs.

Well, took her out for a quick blast on Southampton water this morning and recoded 37kts one way 38.6kts the other, couldn't quite believe how quick it was on full water and half fuel tanks.
Although I needed to use full tabs to get the bow to a height that seemed normal, In my old Gobbi 425 I'd leave the drives on between 0 & +3 and a very small amount of tabs to achieve the same ride angle. Do fly bridge boats generally ride with there bow up?
Had a flick through the screens on the VP display I've found the boat has completed 330NM at a avg 50l/h 5l/nm if I remember right.
The VP Dynamic Positioning System seems to work well, I had it engaged on berthing whist sorting out lines, it held the boat perfectly with the tide racing through and a bit of wind on the starboard side, although I admit it didn't trust it and stayed at the helm throughout.
All in all very pleased, as I bought the boat blind without a sea trial (I was confident it would suit and be significantly better than the Gobbi), crazy I know!!

I didn't realise AZ did a 2 cabin layout, I assume in place od the bunks the is a larger galley?
The 2 rear cabins in the Bav are marginal at best but still fine to sleep in, if I had come from a 2 cabin FB rather than a 2 Cabin SB i think i might of looked at a bigger boat. But the way i see it, the saloon on the SB was a bit of a basement so wasn't used much any way, I'd rather the high light space of a FB.

I know exactly what you mean, hence the ever lasting discussion on Fly' versus Sports boat.

You FB will ride higher in the bow with zero tab unless it gets over the hump like your Gobbi did, which I doubt it will. Less tab is generally better as less drag but in a head sea, you'll need to get the bow down for sure.

The Gobbi on Kad300s' should have returned 4 litres per mile on mid cruise 26-28 knots as similar to Targa 40 on Kads'. At this sort of speed, I expect your Bav to be similar. I'm guessing 400 litres per 100 NM at around 2800-3000 revs.

I'd be pleased to hear if that's about right when you've got some miles under your belt and not just performance testing. :encouragement:

Congrats Shishoe, great looking boat!
We currently have a Bav34 and are also maybe looking into up scaling to a Virtess (Coupe). I can't find any pictures of the engine room, and I'm really interested to know how the engine-access is? If you could post some pictures I would be appreciate it a lot!

Congratulations on the new boat Simon, I guess you won't need me for a couple of seasons while your in warranty.

Did they take the Gobbi in px?

Hi Paul
Thanks, and yes the Gobbi went in p/x, they offered me a good price and managed to sell it on straight away. Its gone down to poole i believe.
I'll have to start saving for RK prices for a while. :ambivalence:

Stick with Paul.

I only had bad experiences with RK

At least it will be done properly and he will supply approved parts to comply with warranty.

Pretty sure the EU made this possible?

Thanks for that Roger, I always advise clients or enquiries that are in warranty to stick with the dealer for two years on a new boat or repowered boat, I know I'm turning business away but I've had first hand experience with dealers who play the " we haven't serviced your engine sir so your warranty is invalid card" it's not worth the aggro for a couple of services. You would be surprised at how little is carried out on the first service.

Only last week I carried out a second full service on a 18 month old Fairline with D4 in. The engines had run from new with the wrong type of pre filters, 30 micron instead of 10, it had never had its anodes changed since new, the paint was still on the plugs , when I finally managed to remove them because of the build up of growth on the threads I had to replace one as its thread for the anode had been partially eaten away, the impellers had never been checked on the first service for damage, again the paint on the bolt heads untouched. I can't say which dealer carried out first service as I didn't get to see the books. But still had I carried out the first service and anything had failed it can lead to an argument.

...and that's the reason why we all recommend you! :)
