Hi everybody..
Am in the process of purchasing seven year old boat with twin kad32s, the previous owner has long since lost interest in said boat and has not winterised at all........
boat is out of water at port solent,
I ask the pannel
what are the chances of frost damage to engines
what are the chances of frost damage to domestics etc

Boat last serviced 2 yrs ago
present owner will not make provisos or budge on price re winterisation...
the boat seems a good boat at a good price otherwise
What do the pannel think.......?

If the current owner has lost interest any purchase should be subject to survey and in this case i would recomend an engine survey/trial
Just my 2 peneth

At temperatures predicted to fall to -7c for Saturday and with the current minus figures for the preceding days in our region, if the engines haven't got antifreeze in the coolant they could get very expensively damaged, same for the raw water side if the exchangers haven't been flushed thro' with antifreeze mix, and drained could be for the same trouble.

only of course in this posters most humble opinion.

if the owner won't co-operate I'd withdraw from the negotiations until the spring when boat can be properly tested in the water. There are always loads of boats for sale so don't risk it.

Hi Nick,

As I said to you this week its been the coldest down there for years and as the boat is out of the water its more likely to freeze as the water that would be under the boat if it was still in the water, will help to keep this warmer.

As the boat is cheap for what it is then I would make your own judgement, you know all the faults now as per the engine and drive survey.

If your not sure about it then look for another boat though to be fair its a good boat for the money, I have a friend who is looking for similar and hes looked at targas for a lot more money that are 10 years older and nowhere near as nice and modern as that boat, he would be interested in it I know.

If the domestics have frozen and burst a pipe or fitting/shower its not the end of the world, pipe and fittings are really cheap, if the hot water tank has split it can be repaired.

The engines wont freeze as I tested the antifreeze level, the raw water was blasted out when I ran the engines for a few seconds.

Hope this helps so get you wallet out!!! before someone else does.

Best regards

Paul.

PS im supposed to be down there at PS but were snowed in!!!!!!!!!!!!
