New boat for ex forumite

Would be good to see his historic musings on a former way of life again so let’s hope he returns , it’s amazing though how these Utube works have moved on in recent years. I guess Dylan won’t be wrapping himself in silk and spinning from his forestry any time soon though in the school of Uma.

I don't think it was the was the trying to make money from his vids that was the problem. It was the hectoring and put downs of anyone who watched without paying. Get a Patreon account, ask people to contribute - fine. It's what everyone does. But Dylan seemed to think the fact that he was formerly a pro meant he should get paid as one for his sailing vids.
World has changed; you get money out of popularity, not quality.
I work in a content creation industry too. We had to find a new model. Not saying I agree with it, but tis what tis.
As a former pro, he really needs to up his game with regards to production. The kids out there with no professional experience produce wonderful quality videos with fantastic sound, seamless transitions, gimbal mounted cameras, drone shots and graphics. I enjoy Dylan's videos but they're a long way from professional in this day and age.

I agree . I am astounded at the technical quality of yer average sailing video production these days. It must take a fair chunk of time editing and relentlessly churning new ‘ content’. And navigating the financial percentage game of the internet whilst staying true to the original adventure.
There are so many ‘ kids’ out there now copying each other and draping their YouTube/patron set ups with eye candy, money shots and !!!cliffhanger titles!!!? , I wonder how much longer that can continue to work for them all.

Granted , we on here are mostly people out there lucky enough to be doing iour own thing on our own boats . And the target audience for most of this stuff is living another life.

There may just be a unique slot for a low key , coastal Fisher25 and one man camera crew..Or should Mr D offer free sailing lessons to professional mermaids ??

I would far rather he kept the quality of the content up at the expense of production. (Assuming he keeps filming his sailing which I hope he does)
