New boat day.

:)

It's already 2 ½ hours from home! Google says 4 ½ so it might as well be in the Med!

Rather the Med?! Second best and the people that frequent it can be right bores. Sunshine this, Sunshine that. Too bloody hot. Yadda yadda yadda. And dont get me started on frigging deadrise, EGT's and Llama something or other dead beat boats. Besides, how many Med boys do you see knocking about now? They're all off pouting cos the locals wont play.

I like it hot! hot hot hot. Although Mrs Scala is a redhead so not brilliant in any kind of daylight really.

Just use her as she was intended to be used and post up your reports. I hope she brings you as much joy as ours has brought us.
Thank you. Today was a start, I've every expectation that this will go well (or why would we have done this) and I've pointed out to my 20-something-year-old children that any hope of any actual money inheritance when we die is long gone. I think they got the message when I willed the mortgage debt on our spanish property to them when they were teenagers.

Coming from a place where it would hit the high 30's by 9am I do not miss hot at all. I love this balmy four seasons in a day weather we get. Out boating is always interesting and different each time we go out, even if it's to the same place two days on the trot. And we are so lucky because we can get out in almost any weather here and still go somewhere sheltered and nice.

It does look fab I grant you.

I came from sail like G .The last sail boat we raced .Come as no surprise on here to many I often found myself sat on a lonely chair in front of the stewards on a Sunday evening arguing it out why it was the other boats skippers fault we contacted :cautious: .
Wife had babies so it became a lads weekend thing .I sold up eventually.
When the kids were deemed of sensible ( read safe ) age I managed to sweet talk the Admiral into getting back on the water .
But my rag n stick days were gone .
Could see at boat shows the huge improvements in comfort motor boats had become and the thought of no healing over , lines , sheets twisted spinnakers , electric toilets , electric hobs in what looked like a kitchen look etc etc .......the destiny was sealed .

Point is this like G I found myself steeping on board a Portofino 35 on its berth in a crowded marina ( SoF ) having never helmed a twin engined boat .
” daddy daddy when can we go out “
“ As soon as the guy Sunseeker have supposed to arranged to show me how it works shows up kids “ was the answer .
Fortunately he did ........and the next 3 days , the rest is history.

So hopefully G will have someone helping, or had someone?

Anyhow hope the sun comes out today .

Congratulations Scala, she's a great looking boat. I remember when I was around 14, managed to get a short trip on a Bavaria sailing yacht when I was at the Southampton Boat Show with my dad, so always have a soft spot for the marque now. Even had a go at the helm when the other salesman was showing the potential buyers below deck.

I'm close to the Hamble and on the search for a 30ish footer myself, probably to purchase next year; more than happy to take yours out for you to keep the oils circulating and stop the barnacles growing! ;)???

Yes, some tuition yesterday from the handover tech, and a day tomorrow, weather permitting, with Mark (Elessar) as a starter.

Biggest issue identified so far is no surprise to anyone including me, that the boat handles completely differently from a yacht. Steer in a straight line? Nope. Reverse in a straight line, err, no. Rudder feel through the wheel? No. Some easy way of knowing where the drives are pointing? That's a no too.

Also I'm used steering from the back and seeing the whole of the boat. Kept forgetting to check what's happening to the 20' of boat behind me!

So I know I need some coaching, and a lot of practice. Job for the summer then, go boating... :)
