What do you think it is for?

Apropos nothing Mike.......it looks like you need to raid your piggy bank and buy a couple of new courtesy flags. Ones in that condition in Turkey would deffo incur the wrath of the local marine plod.

Yep - I have a reputation for not changing them often enough - Tibetan Prayer Flags, they have sometimes been called.
Actually, I make my own from yellow and red spinnaker cloth.
I have several on the boat so there's is no excuse - I should change them

Yep it is a 4G (LTE) omni-directional antenna.
When I first tried it, there wasn't much difference between my 4G(LTE) router's twin antenna and the dome thing to see in the pic.
So I didn't install it.
Since then, SammyB has moved in next door and the signal dropped.
Connecting the antenna in the pic has nearly brought the connection speed back to what it was before they moved in.
So, IMO, it is only worth fitting antenna like this to get a clearer signal away from objects blocking - not to get more gain.
So, at sea, I am not expecting any improvement over the standard antenna.

BTW
I have managed to source an unlimited 4G service in Spain (Vodafone).
And it is fast - as much as 42Mbs.
Good enough for anything including TV.
It was just a matter of disconnecting my WiFi box to the marina and inserting the 4G one.
I've also invested in a number of Raspberry Pis running Kodi fitted to all the boat's TVs
The latest Raspberry Pis incorporate WiFi so there is no need for any extra internal wiring in the boat.
Movies and BBC TV all through the Raspberry Pi
Satellite TV through the ship's dome is now only able to receive Sky News - I've cancelled the Sky subscription - it wasn't worth it any more.

Not cheap
I've gone for the 12 month contract
Even then, they aren't always available - a yachtie friend in SC is having to wait about a month for his.
Seems that Vodafone are rationing them.

I have tried other suppliers - it is the "unlimited" bit that we are looking for.

The router that I'm using is one of these:-

Plug a SIM card in and it works - no other setup required - has a local WiFi for all your current devices so you would probably need to secure it with passwords etc.
In fact, I've installed mine "upstream" of my main LAN router.
I have wired and wireless LANs on board.

Just about to do that on mine. Marvelous devices the Rasberry Pi with Kodi. I'm just about to move the boat to a mooring where mobile signal is very patchy. Sadly 4G repeaters are illegal so it'll have to be finding out if the existing 4G Dongle has a means of connecting up to en external antenna to see if I can get a usable service.

For those that can manage on only 40gb per month, this offer at 30€ per month is a bargain, you could have 3 sims and 120gb pm for the same price.

Exodus
iPlayerWWW (works using my "home brew" VPN)
Live Mix
Phoenix
cCloud

All a bit experimental for me.
I tend to load/install them using AddonInstaller - I can provide instructions if anyone wants.

Kodi also plays movies stored on USB hard disks etc.
I don't use Kodi for music or photos.

At home, I use Raspberry Pis on all the TVs around the house.
On these RPIs I also install the MediaPortal PVR addon which connects to a MediaPortal server in our living room.
Lots of complexity but Kodi seems to be the focal point (softwarewise)

Hope that helps
