I thought that the sale of new 2 stroke outboard motors was banned?

Yep, because of pollution. Only allowed for applications that cannot have the engine flat like edge trimmers, saws, etc.
New outboards can be 4 stroke only.
I dont think that is quite true. I think you can buy them for trade use, not leisure, but a smaller one was £2k+ when I looked into it, so may as well buy the 4stroke!
That's because the Recreational Craft directive only applies to ..... recreational craft!

One can still buy a legal, new 2stroke in the Channel Islands. A mate has just bought a new Tohatsu 3.5.
Right
Though a safety boat for the sailing club is.. which!

Whilst he may legally buy it, what's the situation on importing it to the EU?

Check out the fuel mix - 25-1 that's almost Seagull territory so what does that tell you about the quality of a supposed new outboard???

I had noticed that, and it has bad implications for pollution as well as quality. I never intended buying one, just spotted it when looking for something else. My own 2 hp Yamaha uses 100:1 mix. I suspect the e-bay one is made by the Chinese NBG manufacturing company.
