A particularly fussy girlie crew mentioned the distinct 'boat smell', not just mine but she reckons all the boats have a distinct diesel/oily smell.I don't really care but is there anything that gets rid of it?

Yes. The problem is modern boats don't smell enough to comfortably accommodate a diesel engine in a 'cupboard' in the 'living room'.
Tbe solution is to switch to hemp ropes; ditch the roller genoa and get a full set of real canvas sails and store them damp in the forepeak; replace your electric lighting with oil-lamps and tallow candles; and, most important of all, smoke a pipe in the cabin and insist that all the crew do too.

cats piss smell remover from a pet shop. It's an enzyme and kills diesel smells without adding perfume. Works if the bog leaks too. Anything organic it dissolves the smell.
