Need some advice on tidal mooring lines before I rip my cleats out!

Cleats are only good for what they are designed for. I once pulled out a cleat and bent another while along side the pontoon at Halfpenny pier Harwich. I was on the out side and a big ferry went by. The 40ft boat behind me snapped its bathing platform off due to it disappearing so far under the water probably trying to lift several tonnes of sea water when coming back up.. I have never moored on the outside since.

So apparently I stopped getting notifications so I missed loads of these replies, however I think I've managed to work out a solution for anyone still interested, albeit slightly unconventional.

So I've rigged springs crossing over for to aft etc, but the game changer was in the form of some heavy duty bungees.

I've essentially bungee'd the middle cleat to the dock, so that as the tide is going out it holds me close to the dock allowing the springs to be slack, then when it lands the bungees have a lot more room for stretching and not putting pressure on the cleats.

Unconventional yes, but so far it's working.

I'm sure there will be some that have flaws in my plan but for now we shall see!
