We have built our own yacht and will be moving it into the water soon. We know we need insurance before we put it in the marina, but what will we need to get insurance? Do they require some kind of survey? can anyone recommend a good, reasonabley cheap insurance company? If anyone has built there own and knows what will be required please help , I'm finding the whole process daunting.

I believe (but could be corrected) for marinas you only need third party insurance, this has very little to do with what you are driving, just what you might hit.
Pantaenius were very un-helpfull and cancelled our insurance at one point, so we weren't insured for 4 months of Spanish and French marinas.
You may need some sort of survey as the other risk they cover is if you sink at your berth, and the costs to remove the wreck from the bottom!
There were some posts on good insurance companies a while back so you can search Insurance and find some +ve recommendations.

My comments with regard to any particular company are as the result of my own experiences, and particular incidences. Suffice to say it is very important to be completely clear about what and what isn't covered, especially as you move from one cruising ground to the next. Where you are covered and where you aren't covered and your responsibilty in informing insurance companies of your movements. Without carefull attention to these details you may find yourself not covered when you thought you were.
