Hi Everyone!

I just got given a tired sailboat with an inboard diesel engine. I don't know too much about them unfortunetly, so was wondering whether anyone can make heads of tails of what make/model this one is, and if its worth resuscitating. Before the battery and masterswitch got stolen right before I got it, it turned over, aside from that, I'm new to diesels. Thanks!

Its blue, therefore a Perkins, confirmed,by the casting. That number Perkins 103 - 1? indicates that it is the base perkins that volvo use for their MD20XX series.

It says AR on the block, which would point to it being a Perkins 4.421 - This guide to Perkins engine identification might help http://www.j-a-enterprises.com/PerkinsEngineGuide.htm

The Perkins numbering system that you are quoting. 4 indicates the number of cylinders and the other 3 numbers indicate the cubic inch capacity. So for example the 4.108 was a 4 cylinder of one hundred and eight cubic inch capacity! The pic is of a 3 cylinder engine! Count the injector pipes!

See my explanation of the Perkins numbering system, that is the Perkins that VP base their mD20XX series on

Yes, I know as I have one, but the marinisation and some details like fuel pump, engine mounts, heat exchanger are different from the Volvo version. Think my 3 152 bit was wrong as that (from memory) is an old Massey Ferguson tractor engine - but could be wrong on that as well!

Sorry, was getting in to the "pedant" mode!
VP did their own heat exchangers as did a bloke that used to go around the boat jumbles.
