I have been useing "SeaPro 2000" for planning cruises from home for three years and I have been very happy with it. The software is very user friendly, your routes and waypoints can be easily downloaded by NMEA to most Plotters Raymarine, Garmin ect.
If you need a new chart you can buy unlock keys over the phone, their help line is exellent.

I have now gone over to using the c-map chart reader and a user chip.
Just take all my routes etc from the chartplotter via the chip - slit it into the PC and modify, plan etc on a nice big 21 inch screen - place the info in my handheld plotter as the reserve system and then take the chip back to the baot - slot it in and its all there. I find this is a very easy way of navigating in comfort.

I use the hand held up on the flybridge and it acts as a reserve should anything go wrong with the main chart plotter.

The final reserve is the actual charts. I frankly find it imposssible with fast boat navigation to plot everthing on paper charts during the progress os a trip.

As I understand the new regs, I still have a route plan, it says nothing about it having to be on paper charts.

Hi O.G!
Try www.fugawi.com. I think that the RNLI have it on trial at the moment. the name is a little suspect (similarity to old Tribal Joke etc?)but the product good and after sales great. They are based in Canada but you can down load off the net. A similar product can also be obtained from www.ozieplorer.com (not too sure of web address but try anyway, get back to me if unable to get this one.
Regards
Rob

WinGPS

You can download a demo on www.stentec.com

Allegedly, one could also do the following:
Download an older/demo version from www.stentec.com
Download the crack from astalavista.box.sk
Crack the older version
Get the free upgrade from stentec.com

But that's not what I would do, because that would be considered illegal.

WinGPS uses scanned maps. Works well with a Magellan 320 (again, allegedly). Pre-scanned charts are available on CD-ROM. Scanning a chart with all the chartlets takes about an hour (including the stitching and calibration)

Just a though: who's got scanned charts ? Should we exchange some ? Best of all the older ones, because scanning and exchanging e-charts is illegal. Allegedly.

Group of people on the pontoon: skipper is the one with the toolbox.
