Navigation light standards

There have been a number of posts regarding the specification of navigation lights over the last few months with relation to brightness.

The Col. Regs. are specific about colour & intensity, yet manufactures don't seem to claim to meet any standard.

Vessels flying the German flag are required to have navigation lights that are tested to BSH/00/01/90. Is there a similar British standard we should be looking for? Or maybe a CE mark?

All the well known makes, Aquasignal; Hella; Perko & Lalizas all claim to comply with various standards. As long as you stick with these you should be OK. The smaller ones, approx 50/60mm square(10watt) are for up to 12metres long and the 90/100mm square(25watt) are for up to 20 metres long craft. Go for the largest that you can fit on your craft as they have the longest range.
Aquasignal (German)appear to be the market leaders but are b******y expensive - particularly if you just require a new lens! - only a few pounds more to buy a completely new lamp!
Some of the very small ones with 5watt festoon lamps do not appear to comply with any regs. - but I could be wrong...
I don't think they have to have CE mark, and as far as I know there is not a British Standard.
