Hi, I have the above combination on my boat, plus the DSC controller. Has anyone ever wired them together? The radio/DSC controller needs to be supplied with a position by the Garmin. Even a schematic for the radio/DSC controller would help - I have one for the Garmin. Thanks

Welcome to the forums, Tom. You can download the manual for your DSC1400 controller from here on the excellent Simrad USA website. Basically, the Garmin's data out connects to the brown wire on the DSC1400, and the data common connects to the blue wire on the DSC1400. Hope this helps.

Thanks very much to both. I looked on the Navico site and could find nothing. I'm not sure I understand Neil's comment abt mains cable.

Sorry I have a thing about so called safety equipment on boats. The NMEA connection which is a vital single part of the safety system is normally badly compromised.

Either they use the tiniest signal cable that will break with the slightest movement or they use cheap mains wire. On a boat with mixed close usage of mains and low voltage they should keep the colour codings sane.

In the real world no one would have a safety system that was so easily compromised. Why do they not have 3 NMEA inputs per DSC radio that are used in priority order? There are few boats that go around with just a single GPS unit. But the official answer is that you should have 2 DSC radios but that just enhances my view that it was done only to sell more equipment than actually be safe.
