thanks for the all the replies re radar, plotters etc etc, will go along to the boat show in Jan, quite like the look of the raytheon RL 72 with the radar/plotter and GPS, thx for the info and what a good forum it is.

There is a Marine Electronics show at the NEC in October if you want to look at all the brands etc. Just thought you may like to know.
