just got one of these which is fitted to the mast

the instructions look like they were written for a different beast altogether, but I don't think it is complicated. Anyway I'm going to lead the cable through a deck gland (mast is deck stepped). I presume I'm ok just to cut the flex inside the boat so that I have the "mast bit" that goes up the mast and the "boat bit" that runs to the unit so we can unstep the mast at some point in the future?

I'm not near the boat until the weekend so I can't look in advance, but I'd like to get the right kit together so I can get it sorted when i go down at the weekend - what sort of connector should I use - is it just a standard connection or something fancy like a co-axial cable?

Standard connections but very thin cable as I recall. Yes I cut and connected inside ( in the heads so it was a sitting down job!)
