NASA BM1 - fuse on red wire

+1
I think the BM1's a good piece of kit for the price but that particular fuse-holder is a cheap piece of carp, mine would not make a good electrical contact so I ended up replacing with a better fuse holder, no problems since.

Exactly! I need to replace it with a better fuse. Appart from this the BM1 is fine.

I have taken to replacing most inline fuses with water resistant rubber blade fuse holders, the ones I use have an LED which glows if the fuse has blown which is a real bonus. I also now use blade fuses for panels which incorporate a small LED that glows when it's blown.

There are the chaps, even the tails are tinned and they will handle up to 30a fuse http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WATERPROOF-30-AMP-Blade-Fuse-Holder-LED-BLOWN-WARNING-/170588198911.

Link to seperate fuses. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-Pc-LED-Intelligent-Car-Plug-In-Fuse-Set-5A-25A-Light-Up-When-Blown-/310347096402?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item484220e152

These look great, thanks.

And after all the comments regarding this NASA BM-1 fuse over many years on the YBW forums one might think they would have taken notice. Ship spoiled for -lets say- 10p at most??

It is quite possible that nasa have changed it for a better fuse holder but I have no idea as mine has worked perfectly since I installed some years ago.

I was horrified to discover 20mm fuses on my boat, totally unsuitable. All replaced with automotive type, mostly in fuses boxes. I just wish you could get inline fuse holders that you can wire up, rather than with tails.

You can, Here are some decent ones if you want http://www.thetoolboxshop.com/0-376-03-standard-blade-fuse-splash-proof-holder-9696.html You don't even need a proper flag terminal crimp tool. They actually come supplied with new Webasto's, many other of the "kit form" ones are just two 6.5mm flags with a plastic holder and are difficult to get any kind of waterproofing, as a DIY job on yer own ship where time is not so important you could do it but not when time is being charged.
Blue Seas do make a waterproof crimpable in line fuse holder for AGC & MDL 30mm fuses, whilst I trust their kit I am not keen on using those either.
