I'm fitting the above engine to feed the laptop and dont recognise the connector required to fit the VHF input on the engine.... it has two small prongs on the outside of the connector if this helps - I'm wondering if it's a BNC?

Many Thanks

Just joined photobucket, but I cant get a picture in focus - does this help?

http://www.allgadgets.co.uk/ag/product.asp?pf_id=AG3933&dept_id=1

Of course it does!!!

reading down the page I find requirements include a VHF aerial with BNC connector

At least you prompted me to the answer. Cant find any reference to connector in the limited insrtuctions provided.

Thanks

Just done this - it is a BNC connector.

As I connect to my spare VHF aerial (in case of mast failure) it has a standard VHF connector on it for a radio and I didn't want to change this.

Some sell connectors (e.g JGTech where I got mine from) - only a couple of quid I think - its the way I went - makes more connections - but at least I can pinch it back for the radio easily if I ever need to

Best wishes
James

It is a BNC 50 Ohm connector.

If the AIS is close enough to the VHF you can use adapters to be able to use the AIS aerial as an emergency VHF, and the VHF aerial on the AIS in order to extend range. I get at least 12 miles from a whip aerial mounted on the davits for the AIS, but up to 40 when using the masthead aerial.

The adapters are all available from Maplin.

Dogwatch posted a good guide for joining the BNC plug to the coax abt 2-3 months ago.
