Does anybody have any real experience of the Nanni hybrid diesel? Has any magazine done a test on one?

I'm very interested in hybrid technology, particularly for the regenerative aspect when sailing. I've been researching the various systems available, but Nanni seems to be the most advanced - judging by their own website.

PS - please can we avoid the "cheaper to fit a generator" comments. I don't want a generator on my boat. Also, I don't care about losing half a knot of speed or so. And I already have solar and wind.

I know little about the Nanni hybrid, as the sales people on their stands at shows have always seemed far more concerned about talking amongst themselves than dealing with potential customers.

However, I have just ordered a Hybrid supplied by Hybrid Marine (www.hybrid-marine.co.uk) which comes fitted to a Beta 30hp diesel. As I have a 37 foot Prout Snowgoose with a single engine and steerable leg, this option provides me with an auxiliary drive option - hence its attraction. It is a 5kva generator that provides 10kva of power when used as a drive.

I've also been following with interest the Hybrid Marine development programme for several years, but there does not seem to be much progress in sales and marketing.

I'm leaning towards Nanni, just because it is a bigger manufacturer, with established spares backup, and presumably a warranty.

I'd really like to see some independent published tests on these systems.

I have not seen any magazine tests in the UK.

Can't help you on this new system, but I have a good size Nanni engine with their built in generator. Different from what you are looking at but I have been very pleased with their UK agent. We had a few teething issues and they were very helpful.
