I have been in discussion with a bloke who owns 14 boats - big mobo, big yacht, hobie, windsurfer, tender, two gp14s - one plastic one wood. He does not think that he has a problem and is in denial. he just thinks he needs more room in his garden

I was thinking of writing a tongue in cheek column for SCA about this terrible affliction and am looking for a posh name to describe this condition

all suggestions gratefully received

Dylan

PS - I peaked at six boats - but am now down to a very controlled three

Navis immoderatus.

Mind you, I don't think you can have too many boats, cars, girlfriends

Have you ever tried running more than one girl friend? Absolute nightmare, I thought I had it cracked when they had the same name how wrong was I :o:o:o.

No No multiple boats no problems but girl friends... That's for the young to learn about  the rich  or just exceptionally stupid ...

Dulce et decorum est.....

Dulce et decorum est pro navis permulta amare.

(It is sweet and fitting to love very many boats!)

(Sort of).

I once wrote an article for CCC (Cars and Car Conversions) about the same problem with cars.
I called it Fleet Operator's Syndrome

John

Johns is the best for me so far because it is instantly recognisable

and sounds as though it might be right - but probably is not

my american polyargonist tells me that his 14 boats add up to 244 feet

is this a record

mine are a mere 45 feet

Polynavis...

Polynavigulum if they are large boats or ships

Polyscahpa if they are more like skiffs...

Of the three the last sounds like some sort of comunicable desease:)

I once worked with a guy who had a small harem of girlfriends. We all shared a phone in a communal area, and whoever was closest answered it and you called out if it wasn't for you. It was a good idea to check no-one was in his office before yelling "So-and-so's on the phone". I don't think we always got it right! Still, it all ended when he married one of them - though we never thought it would happen; he was pretty good at running :D We could never understand how he did it though; he was not particularly handsome, but all the girls were absolute stunners (including the one he married).

Whaddaya mean "too many boats?" You CAN'T have too many boats, but you can have too little time to sail them.

I only have 10 (4.5 sailing*) at the moment cos I sold 2 (for the price of one) to Lakey & two others had to be scrapped. Total LOA? about 124' approx. I was looking at another one the other day, bt it was a bit to pricey.

* I have a sailing rig for one of the inflatables.
