Snot in a shell.
Its funny, I didnt like oysters until I worked in Rio for a while. There was a restaurant we went to a lot which had all you can eat meat and seafood and, one night, I thought I'd give a few oysers a try and they were lovely. Since then I try them often and, although the ones in Rio were among the best.

If you ask me, it looks like you passed too close to that reef......I have the same ladder
You're probably right, but home ground and no tides or currents and, famous last words, I know it like the back of my hand 🤫 .
I bought the ladder in Croatia and it's perfect for getting on the hardtop when I need to. Stores perfectly on the flybridge stern rail.

I got the ladder for the same reason....to change the bulb in the riding light at the top of the mast. I thought that if I get the longest then it will be more useful around the house....but now I wish I’d bought the smallest, half the weight etc

Mine is 3.27M (10' in old money) which is ideal for my purpose. I just leave it on the boat.

I could drink the beer and use the sauce, i can eat most things, but i find the thought of eating Oysters vomit inducing, yes i have tried one, i fear i am too much of a peasant to enjoy them. :)
Years ago, shellfish was "food of the peasants". What the poor coastal people could scavenge from the seashore.

True indeed. When I was young fish was regarded as a paupers dish by many in Ireland, a throwback to a time when it was the only food the Irish could eat without paying taxes to the landlords. When the potatoe famine struck it it was all they had.

That reminds me of the Irish slapper that I had the pleasure of knowing for about three weeks. One evening, she cooked her speciality of potato and fish pie. It was delicious, as were the seconds (with the lights dimmed down low).

The one that amuses me is monkfish which, back in the ‘70s, was usually thrown away by fishermen until somebody discovered yiu could make fake scampi from it. Now it’s highly sought after as a dish in its own right.

Many years ago when i was fit, i used to dig for old bottles and pot lids, when you dug down through the ashes you went through loads of shells, mainly mussel shells but cockles winkles and oysters so they must have eaten shed loads of them, this was on inland tips as well as coastal tips.

We had our first rain since early September last night - only the second time it rained since May.
It really freshened everything although the boat was a mess this morning with the dust the first rain brings.
Flat calm today. The sea is like glass and we can hear the sound of every ripple reaching the shore. It's heaven.
