My Samsung Tablet is getting slower and its my plotter

My tablet is about 3-4 years old and of course I use it at home as well as the boat.With stuff like phones and computers not long ago I would have been encouraged to start thinking about replacement or accept a decline in performance. Other than clearing cookies and latest android version anyone got any tips on keeping a tablet fast? My tablet is a Samsung Galaxy A10.
 
The simplest things are limiting auto updates, notifications and the likes, keeping the number of running apps down and not having too many tabs open in the browser. After that keeping the internal storage below about 60-70% makes a huge difference - they really don't like being full.

I would imagine that, as you would with a PC hard disk when it becomes sluggish, backup all of your apps and data and do a factory reset to format the drive.
 
I use CCleaner .... the free version you can download from Play store ... there is a paid version as well which can do more of course.

This is an app that has evolved from the CCleaner ... previously named Crap Cleaner that cleans up PC's ...

Take note that on PC's it will cause you to need to re-login to forums etc as it cleans out cookies / memorised logins etc.

Another trick with Android ... first go to the all ruuning apps ... tap the close all ... if that is not enough to get speed back when you run the app you want ... then next is to force close anything you are not using ... go to menu - apps .. then click on each app - choose force close on all unnecessary apps ..

Many people think that just shutting down and restarting is the answer ... no its not as the tablet will restart those not shut down apps and run in the background.
 
As suggestions above but you may also consider replacing the battery .My Samsung 2019 T510 is getting to that point and I have already replaced the battery in my Samsung 2016 T 580 which is my primary nav tool. Well worth the effort and ultimately nothing to lose - even if you run it alongside a new model for a time - which is what I do.
The IFIXIT website has clear instructions on this as do other you tube chanels.
A further suggestion : get an Amazon twin 2.4 amp basics cigar point charger ( £8-99)
Amazon basics car charger or similar high output unit (plus good lead) which will maintain your tablet at nominal 100% running Navionics or Marine Navigator all day long.

Full reset is a drastic move ... I suggest do everything you can to avoid that !!
Problem I've found with tablets - iPad and Android ... backups are always lacking something ...

Example : I have Android Notes on Android Samsung and Z30 Blackberry ... they carry all my login and various data ....

Neither the Android or the Android compatible Z30 can backup Notes. Samsung say to backup to Samsung Cloud ... Google says to Google cloud ... well it doesn't !!

My Galaxy S8 is over 4 years old and I have not experienced slowing down. It is my everyday tablet and also used as a chart plotter
I use the inbuilt Device Maintenance facility at least monthly, delete unused apps. If you have unused apps that can't be uninstalled then use the "disabe" function.
 
We have an ancient Samsung tablet as a back-up boat plotter, it runs Navionics fine.
We don't use it for anything else and keep it in 'airplane' mode.
I have an early Ipad Air which seems to run Navionics OK, despite being often a bit slow for browsing.

I don't think you need a particularly fast tablet to run Navionics in a sailing boat.
Even zoomed to detail scale in a RIB at 30knots, it seemed to cope?

I agree ...

The trick is to close all unnecessary apps to have as much processor / memory used for your Navionics.
