my project sealine

Wow, that's gonna look fantastic! I love the white. I definitely think you should have the borders - it's a principled thing about never exposing the end grain of the teak.

So you're gonna do, in this "phase one", the single step up from platform to cockpit, and all the steps up to the flybridge? That'll look good

Transom window looks fab too. I know you took the windows out but have they been deep refurbished or are they new?

Yep that's sort of right re what's happening now. It's all the bits that the previous owner had navy carpet on. So it's heat crazed. It will include 2 steps up not one, ie the top bit between the cusions.

The remaining bits are just large sheets. Nothing intricate.

Windows were all refurbed bar the windscreens which don't leak. That just got new rubber installed in situ.

Yep that's part of the logic. The reason these bits are laid on - its too cold to glue them on - is to get the alignment with the fly steps right.

I will also have the cockpit and fly deck done in due course, but this will wait for a while as it's money I don't need to spend yet. The rear had repairs from the paserelle and davits and the steps have damaged get coat, all being covered by the "teak". Cockpit and fly is all good for now.

All looks really good Mark, I really do like the white caulking (I reckon MatchII will look fantastic too, goodness knows what JFM has started). Definitely keep the borders, when the top treads are done it will look even better. I reckon that you should change the yellowing plastic light fitting on the STB quarter, mine is the same but you can't see it with the dinghy on the platform!

Rob the teak paid a visit today and sent me a pic of WIP.

Will JFM be spending the 25th pining over a missing Christmas card?

I think not!

Mark, do you have any idea how much money your costing me lol.

Teak looks fantastic!

Drivers

Mark,
I see that you had your boat at Drivers Dry Berthing, my Travado, Splash, was in almost exactly that spot about 3 months ago and Paul did a really cracking job of polishing the hull and a few small gel repairs. As I was in a hurry to get her into the water and he didn't have time to do the topside which I now regret as I will have to get it done in the spring.
I have a massive job list for the old girl, similar to yours, but I do think that it shows that you can bring these old boats up to almost new condition without spending a fortune if you do some work yourself and sub out the rest sensibly.
I will start a thread on the Travado in Feb- March as I get the work done.
Great thread, thank you. SIMON

Oak and lacquer all wood

If you have the wood framed main power distribution unit, that is oak, originally limed oak, then they were completed in grey. The later boats were fibre glass as the local firm that made the cabinets for me went bust, so Sealine went white glass fibre.

Drivers is where ARC is based and the big white tent in the pictures is mine - unfortunately Evenstar is too tall to have got in there.

Paul does all of ARCs gelcoat and GRP work, including our bowthrusters etc. I rate him very highly.

Hi Brian, yes it's the wood one painted grey. Now I know it's oak I'll be taking the sander to it.

I have looked at the replacement top panel on your website - the membrane one - but it all works currently so a bit too much of an inventment for me. Is it possible to just buy the membrane for me to rebuild it myself?

It's not a diy job, requires totally dismantling the panel, then rebuilding around 6 / 8 hours work. I only do as a service to owners of our equipment, it cost around £50 each membrane, so with other material not a left for profit, they were £550 new.

steps have arrived - and a name. Taking shape outside now :) Not everything in shot has had a final polish yet - and a new lid is on order for that locker.

Some joker has replaced this panel with MDF - the vinyl is fine I just need to transfer it onto some new ply.

Interior rebuild starts over Christmas - and the plotter is seriously overdue now deposit paid months ago, I want to finish the upstairs dash.

Had a snag with the port engine today - it started itself again, ironic as I couldn't start it last week! So the day was spent wiring not construction. Ho hum.

Looks splendid ( for a mobo ).

Will be going over my black caulking with tippex to emulate the new look.

Cheers Colin.

I am a very recent convert to the white caulk, and I'm delighted with it.

And I know it's only lino, but the quality of the panels made by Rob and his team at Advanced Marine Decking needs to be seen up close to be appreciated, the joins are just perfect. And it looks incredibly real.

It works on a boat like mine, but a boat with classic lines like yours and with all its beautiful real teak inside and out - I think you can keep your tippex safe.

So even if the white does catch on, it does make me wonder if it will catch on on yachts - yachties tend to be a more conservative lot.

Actually I think it would work on some of the newer, squarer type yacht designs that are coming through. But on a more classic boat, I think I'd still have the black.

I did say "catch on" - they're not even mainstream in Antibes!
OK, :), recent Bordeaux 60 builds like this (there are many others of less grand scale than Twizzle and Chrisco that I could mention)

Anyway, E4 is looking fantastic in those pics Mark. Great project

Mark, you have to get rid of that light half concealed by the step, you can reglass and fit a smaller one (as well as one to match on STB side) it spoils the excellent effect. I think it's all coming together really well, having seen the original, I can't believe the transformation in such a short time! Evenstar 4 is looking really good, well done.

Hmm yes. They didn't notice till she got polished up - she really is now a different colour.

Shower looks **** now too.

I am looking for some nice, small stainless rimmed LEDs for the fly steps - any ideas anyone? (Pricing needs to be more maplin than match JFM :))

Could do the swim platform at the same time then.

But it needs to be done before the aft cabin goes back together so there is rear access - it was stripped for access to the bathing platform and will get oakified before it goes back.
