This maybe a stupid question but when does a motor boat become a motor yacht and why? Is the name just for posing?

Saw Octopus in Venice a couple of weeks ago on holiday. Twin helicopters - bow and stern. There was a 35ft fly next to her then, looked liked a tender!

motor boat normally becomes a motor yacht, when it is big enough to carry a proper motor boat as a tender!

According to this month's Motor Boat & Yachting magazine boats in the 60-70ft class can be justifiably called Motor Yachts.

Not sure of 'when' they are called 'yacht' but almost anything powered by engines does qualify - other than jet bikes and tenders i guess. For example, Sealine designate their range as Motor Yachts - even starting at the little 23 ft sportscruiser. I.e It is a motor yacht - sports cruiser style!. Roy

Not sure, but I was under the impression, that a "yacht" was defined as a sea going vessel that was used for pleasure purposes. Therefore, us lot all own motor yachts. Wouldn't use the expression myself as it sounds a bit snotty.

I always thought that the tag yacht applied to recreational vessels.ie Trawler Yacht...........trawler converted for leisure use.

<hr width=100% size=1>If it can't be fixed with a lump hammer dont fit it!
