I was just waiting for Ellie.........

While we're waiting, has anyone else been reading the Bret Easton Ellis article in vice.com (also reported in the Telegraph and i)?

It’s very difficult for [millennials] to take criticism, and because of that a lot of the content produced is kind of ****ty. And when someone is criticised for their content, they seem to collapse, or the person criticising them is called a hater, a contrarian, a troll.

In a way it’s down to the generation that raised them, who cocooned them in praise – four stars for showing up, you know? But eventually everyone has to hit the dark side of life; someone doesn’t like you, someone doesn’t like your work, someone doesn’t love you back… people die. What we have is a generation who are super-confident and super-positive about things, but when the least bit of darkness enters their lives, they’re paralysed.

It's perhaps a little unkind of him to refer to these young people as Generation Wuss.

Not the fault of the kid though, is it.

My nine year old lad lives with my ex in Portugal. Because she is with a zillionaire bloke my lad lives in a beautiful villa, gets to fly first class around the world at least once a year, stays in luxury hotels in executive suites with personal chef.

He loves it.

But, by the grace of God he also loves wild camping in my white van with me.

I see my job as preserving that situation. It may not work, but I will try.

No, it's not. However, by the time the kids reaches, say, their mid-twenties, one would hope that they would develop a bit more resilience. Flouncing off in a sulk when things go wrong is unattractive at 15 and rather pathetic at 25. You'll understand, I am sure, that I am speaking in general terms here.

And not the recommended behavior for a self-proclaimed media-savvy professional who has got sponsorship on the promise of internet exposure.

It does seem a little odd. But then, perhaps it's better for [GPS company], [fender company] and [anchor company] to get no exposure than to be associated with a turkey.
