I am concerned that this 84 page 830 post, 87,000 view thread about launch problems is over shadowing my own impending crisis.

I would just like to say that I am completely unconcerned about the state of the Quay where Harmony has been stored for many, many weeks.

I have no idea how much she weighs although I know that it is some-where between three and four tonnes.

can I find a crane that can cope?

can I get insurance for this operation?

Does anyone know of any occasions when Centaurs have been lifted with a crane without breaking up?

What colour crane would be best for this sort of operation?

Could I ask the army to stand by to help?

is this health and safety gone mad?

Dylan

Maybe you can use a lowloader instead of a crane?

Typical reporting, The accident happened in 2009 so it couldn't possibly have been a brand new yacht as Westerly ceased building boats yonks before then. Likewise £20k for a brand new 28 foot Konsort branded by the paper as a "luxury yacht" in 2009 would be something of a bargain I feel.

If it gets any longer I will have to fit props to my screen, maybe a desk top survey is needed before I open an excessive thread count. As drift a thread has not toppled my lap top sitting flat on the desk, do you think my pillar mounted screen will be OK? I am anguished at the thought of catastrophic screen topple.

I'm surprised the hot air generated on this thread hasn't lifted the boat gently off the quay and into the water;)

Around in circles again, this was suggested pages ago. I think you will find the army are a little busy to be wasting tax payers money lifting boats

So what taxpayers' money would be wasted. Wages are already paid for, heavy machinery is already paid for, coupla tons of diesel already in bunkers bought in at negative cost, good experience for them - never know when they might have to do something similar in earnest - benefits far outweigh costs - they've got to have practice somewhere.

It's the old everything costs the tax payer argument again, as was said what else would they be doing - flying high ranking officers about in Chinooks for functions at different establishments when they could get the fecking bus - now that is unjustified money waste.

And if Ellie has to pay for the insurance I'm sure she would just to get this kick started.

That all sounds fair enough, but Ellie was earlier described as a "damsel in distress" - I suspect if the press were to get hold of the "Girl uses army to launch luxury yacht" story, she may not be portrayed as such. Let's be honest, she's a long way from being "in distress"...she's a girl who's bought a big old boat and now doesn't have the money to get her launched. I do sympathise but it's very much a "luxury problem", especially when compared to the large chunk of the South West which is currently underwater and probably needs military assistance more than Ellie.

Don't the pilots need the practice? They have to log hours to stay current so while they are up their they may as well be useful and drop officers off at functions. Saves on the bus fare. ;)

I have nothing against the army using its stuff if either (a) it benefits a deserving organisation or (b) the problem is a particularly interesting one. In this case the problem is trivial and the benefit is individual, so I really can't see it as a justified use of army resources.

Army lift or not.......whoever lifts it STILL needs the ground survey done!

And so it goes on and on and on and..............

Is the A-Team real?...now theres a bunch of guys to get a job done!

Cue the music..........

Not unless an army Chinook carrying and officer to a function just happens to be passing by. Hover, put boat in slings, lift, fly sideways....plop. The officer can then be delivered to the function. No extra cost to anyone, it's a win win situation. Or.....the Chinook could drop off a low loader. :encouragement:;)

God bless the Maily Dail headline writers…

"Pictured: Luxury £20,000 yacht split in two after 40-tonne crane collapses on top of it"

Would they have written…

"Pictured: Luxury £20,000 car split in two after 40-tonne crane collapses on top of it"?

Luxury yacht? £20,000? Someone needs to tell them you can't even get an open dayboat for that.!
