My new project... MFV Elizmor

Thin ice.
Many of us have decided that the Marina has acted very professionally, both in respect of their safety and commercial responsibilities and in openly inviting a swift resolution to the problem.

I agree completely, and I was not trying to suggest anything to the contrary. The marina's position, as they themselves have explained it, seems entirely sensible.

The villain in my film is probably a sworn enemy of Scottish fishing boats.

Call me stupid, but why not use a floating pontoon mounted crane to lift the boat in.

No ground survey needed
No load spreading plates needed
No special insurance needed
No council permission needed
the boat is close to the edge of the harbor, so less capacity lift needed:)

Been there, done that. Ellie said she'd investigated and it would cost twelve grand.

No end of money required.

More like £2k I betcha . Double bubble specialists don't come cheap

Anyway since its now a movie script I reckon the relaunch should be... at Cannes on a red carpetway.

If there was a big enough one handy, that's a solution.
But it would need to be a quite big barge to be stable with 35t lifted at a radius of several metres.

Either there is one in the area or not.

Ellie avoided any specific mention of the total cost.
However she said
One of the reasons the previous owners sold Elizmor to me was because the launch fee was so high - they had a quote around £5,000. So they thought that was enough to warrant selling her... I don't think they knew anything about the added insurance issues, they didn't get that far down the line. Now, I would almost be happy to pay £5,000 just to launch her!

So it may be that her reference to £ Double means more than £10K. As she seems to have been gagged we will not know until after the event.
(I am not suggesting that it is a bad thing for not to be posting the details on the internet. Probably the wisest thing, in fact.)

Well. You lay down the law and then break it yourself with another post. Groundhog Day indeed

I felt that it justified repeating.

Actually, it is the internet connection here in Lagos. The weather is carp which means that everybody is hunkered down on their boats streaming Downs Syndrome Abbey and all manner of celebrity chef programmes.

I appreciate that you do not have that problem in Windymere as the population, being even more geriatric than expats over here, are well tucked up in bed by now.

The only reason this saga hasn't moved on is the fact someone hasn't donated a crane and land survey so the OP can move her new house to another fixed pitch. Anyone want to pay Picfords for me to move my stuff down south? I'll write a blog and say how good you were! :encouragement:

+1

If five grand is a serious issue now, I'd worry about the whole project. I can think of several plausible ways in which my 26' and 3 tons of fibreglass could land me with a £5k bill; I find it hard to imagine that similar or worse possibilities don't exist in 53' and 35 tons of 60 year old wooden boat being recommissioned after twelve years ashore.

Hope she's ok - I've just been rereading her blog and the final entry refers to having to go to hospital...

I can't see that. The link on her blog to Facebook takes me to a Facebook home page. I don't really do Facebook and as they continually ask intrusive questions about my personal life I assume that I am not allowed to view her page. Her loss

As she says in her blog
I now work entirely for myself as a freelance social media strategist,
it seems she has a whole area of less committed surfers who won't see her page.
I wonder if all social media marketeers are missing out on hits?

I wonder if all the claimed influence all this social media stuff is supposed to have is just so much hype and blarney.

Not claiming I am typical (if there is a typical) and somebody will say I am not the right 'demographic' but I have been left completely unmoved by this gargantuan thread. I read it much as I would a copy of The Lady or The Daily Express left in the GP waiting room. I certainly have not mentioned it to anybody else not have I been moved to buy a Lewmar anchor just because a 23 year old girl has been gifted one.

Seems that any 'project' can gain instant credibility by giving it a website and blog. Nothing may happen for months - if ever - yet the author is elevated (largely by themselves and a few 'followers') to celebrity status.

I could name two other projects allegedly involving admirable sailing feats which have trumpeted themselves beforehand and come to naught - sucking up a bit of commercial sponsorship, and a lot of Go, ******, Go!!! in the process.

C/F Roger Taylor and others who just quietly get on with things.

"....Freelance social media strategist..." One of my neighbours used to do that too. She somehow got those words all down to one: Marketeer

Never heard of the term b4 then
