If it weren't for bad luck, you would have no luck at all........

So, at the end of the season, my 3 year strife of a leaking vessel continued, even after I had changed the stern tube, Volvo seal and propshaft courtesy of Jeanneau Warranty Department.

Having established that the Volvo seal is fundamentally not the right design for someone who insists on parking on the putty regularly, because of the burping issue, I bought a nice (remended from the nice Moodysabre bloke) Tides Marine thing in a fetching shade of red.

So, I undid the jubilee clips holding the Volvo seal onto the stern tube, and slid it forward to inspect the shaft and tube, expecting all to be sweetness and light.

So, Jim, whats that gouge in the propshaft all about?
Well, Jim, it would seem that the stern tube and propshaft are not aligned so the shaft is concentric, Jim.
Does that mean the propshaft has been touching the stern tube Jim?
Yes, Jim, it would seem that way. Pity it wasn't a hard foul, you might have heard it graunching away.
Blimey Jim, thats a bit odd.
Yes Jim, can you swing the torch over the rear engine mounts?
Cant see anything odd there Jim, just a couple of 3mm plates under the bearers.
So, is it possible Jim, that the yard doing the repair weren't very diligent?
Possible, but shan't mention that for a moment.
Best you phone the Jeanneau Dealers Jim!
Hello, is that Jeanneau open on a Saturday ready to please your customer department?
Yes, how may we help?

This is Jim, please come and look at the repaired stern tube that seems to be less than optimally configured, and may have contributed to the mud in my bilges, the filthy staining, the rotting of your unsealed ply floor structure, the rusting keel bolts.
Certainly Sir, we will be there on Monday.

So Jim, does that mean you aren't going to fit the Tides Marine seal today?
I would say not Jim. Pass the hankies, I want to have a cry now.
Jim, do you think this might delay the start of the season while they faff about doing not enough?
Probably Jim. I think I will take advice on realignment from someone who knows, and just do it my self.
Perhaps that's best in the long run Jim, after all, they have had a lot of practice on your Friday afternoon boat.

By the way Jim, you ought to get friends to come and help on the boat, it stops you talking to yourself.

So why have the lights gone out on the boat, and no battery charger?
Check the supply box? Yeah thats working.
Change the lead? Oh yeah, thats better, power restored.
Check the lead? Ooh thats odd, no fault with the lead!
Check the input socket. Blimey, its rotted out in under 3 years. Remarkable.
Better fit a new shore power socket then.

No, I would rather put the wash boards in and go home and sulk thanks.

Sorry to hear the news Jim, started my thread feeling all hyper with my progress and hoped all was going well for others, now feel a complete tit. Hope things start to improve soon, any idea how much of a delay this is going to mean ?

Your time will come Jim, your time will come. Not fun when it gets like that though I know. I'd blame the whole thing on MoodySabre, he's feeling perky after a good holiday, he can take it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Chin up mate.

do you think we should have a beer and compare notes to see who has the longest list?
I know we have dicussed the delights and disasters of having a spanking new boat but THREE YEARS! is taking the pi$$....two years old at least has to be the minimum before considering...
Having the first major sevice on the engines in next couple of weeks....engineer says he wants to check all the things advised to "observe" from Volvo Penta

Good luck....
Doug

Blimey Jim - I'm glad that I don't have your sort of luck. What a fiasco you've had. Just as well that you were going to change the stern gland and spotted it. Good luck - Moody 31 available for a borrow soon.

As for that ex-friend CharltonPipewhatsitblamedreamer - it weren't my fault guv.

Sorry to hear the tales of woe and frustration. I thought I hadn't seen you on fullcircle for a while. At least the big chunk of mud on your keel wings has now gone. I hope you had a cup of tea with John and the RSA folk to cheer you up.

Have you seen Moon Dancer in the slings. Keel is now on (hope it doesn't leak) and only the mast to put up now.
