The last time I went sailing I had to use my Musto HPX waterproofs, and my Dubarry sea boots. After I had been sitting on a damp cockpit seat for a while I realised that my trousers were a bit damp. Then at the end of the trip when I was standing in the water while getting the outboard off the dinghy on the slipway, I realised that one of the boots was letting water in through the ankle. I could not really complain as both are over 10 years old.

I contacted both companies, and described the leaks, I told them that the products were well out of the warranty period, and that I was asking if it was possible to repair or reproof them. Dubbarry's said they could test them and replace the gore-tex lining if they had failed and return For £30, which they did very promptly.

Musto said send them back and they would test and report back.
The report was that they had delaminated and that it was not possible to repair them. However they had a guarantee of APPROXIMATELY 10 YEARS!!!!! so they would replace them free of charge, if I would confirm my home address.

When they arrived today, they included a letter saying that they thought my confidence in Musto must have been dented, and they hoped that their action would go some way to restoring it. Well my opinion about Musto kit is that it is top price, but the product performance is well worth it, and the service is out of this world. So top marks to MUSTO and DUBARRY

I had the same issue with some Goretex Musto Midlayer salopettes this year - they weren't leaking but the Goretex went a funny colour when wet (the inside lining) - they replaced them with new ones in the same week without question - fantastic!

Similar experience with Dubarry.

We had a diesel leak in the boat and one of my Dubarry boots got into the bilge water and I couldn't get it clean. Rang Dubarry, who said send it back and they would see what they could do. I live in Dublin but as it happened had to do an overnight business trip to the west coast so decided to deliver the boot to Dubarry in Ballinsloe in person. Met the customer services manager who said they would look at it and possibly replace the gortex lining. Wouldn't take any money or Visa details and said they would send on the bill.

Cutting a long story short arrived home from the trip the following day and the repaired boot was there before me - no charge!

Hopefully the good publicity will allow them to continue the great service

Dubarry, good service, I don't think so. After two pairs of deck shoes one after the other, one with Gortex liners and the other not, both let the liners slip and ruckle into a toe crunching knot. I called Dubarry, who said.." Yes.. that's a problem we've seen... take them back to the retailer." That just wasn't a possibility for me and I said so. One pair was bought in Hull and the other in St. Peter Port. The response was "Well... mumm... there's not much we can do then... really." Not terribly helpful, I felt. These 'topof the range' deck shoes cost of around £200.00 this year. No small sum.
So, for a handsome £16.00 postage, I sent them directly to Dubarry with a carefully drafted letter (not abrasive but clearly expressing my disappointment in the quality of the product. Dubarry's response? Well, to be fair, I got one: a box taped together with both pairs enclosed - no letter or comment but the liners were lightly re-glued back in place. Good enough, I suppose, but I would rather have had one not two pairs of boat shoes that were well enough made in the first place. Could this be anything to do with moving production to the far east?

My Dubarry's haven't needed any attention yet, but both SWMBO and I have Musto "Professional" Equestrian riding jackets. Both needed relining around 5 years ago, phoned the dealer and her said send them back, "lifetime" warranty. Both relined for free, SWMBO's is now 19 years old, mine is 18, and as good as the day I bought it despite constant hard use. I thought they were expensive at £300 each when we bought them ('88 & '89), they seem very cheap now.
