Is there any real practical alternative to the Dremel cordless please ? My ancient one has just snuffed it.

There are cheap ones on amazon from about £15 upwards... But you do get what you pay for, I don't suppose any of them will last as long as a dremel

Not that I have come across but it's one of those tools that has a myriad of uses and one is always thankful to have one to hand when the need arises. As you will have a number of bits from your existing one all you will need is the basic drive unit in the cheapest option available.

My not heavily used genuine Dremel 3000 motor died so I bought a complete bare tool Dremel replacement. This quite soon developed a (common) fault in that the lock button stopped working, so you could not change bits. The spare part was at the time unavailable and cost about £16 - Dremel Parts 2610009839 Shaft Lock Assembly : Amazon.co.uk: Clothing

For a lot less than another genuine Dremel I bought a Screwfix copy that works every bit as well and has now probably had more use than either Dremel ever did. There are some jobs that only a Dremel-type tool does well.

Are you sure it's dead and doesn't just need new brushes? They are a consumable item and last around 50 hours
