boats with bow thrusters and only about half of them were "must have" items because the boat manouvered in an unpredictable way without.
They are a positive addition to any boat that manouvers in tight spots regularly.
They are great if you have to reverse any great distance in crosswinds. Particularly if your boat has twin rudders.
They are really good at pivoting the boat quickly if you run aground.
They are good for getting the bow up into the wind from a standing start when moored alongside.
They don't appreciably affect performance.
I don't think it matters how big your boat is though the cost benefit is harder to justify on a small boat.
The only thing better is to add in a stern thruster too.
