Example below of what you can do if you have access to - a) a boat, b) some sailing friends and c) some water.

In this case a J 80 owned between four of us Wednesday night racing this 'summer' on the Medway.

Looks huge fun. As an ex-dinghy racer it made me feel a bit wistful for all that speed.....

Believe me there are times I would swap the speed for tea making facilities and a bit of standing headroom......

What level of wind and boat speed was that?

The boat speed off the wind was about 9 knots in around 15 knots of breeze. We get 15 knots out of it reaching in F5-6 but it all goes wrong quickly!

The Medway isn't a great river for asymmetric boats, we tend to get windward leeward courses, so we are usually speeding off in the wrong direction while the others go straight to the mark. When the wind allows reaching it is brilliant fun.

The depth also comes up quickly at speed...as we have found out....many times!
