Help!!!!
We are moving our President 46 motor cruiser to the Med next year and we have been quoted about 9k to go by Dock express or the fuel and other costs involved in going on the bottom are similar (plus the inevitablity that something somewhere will break and no doubt cost a fortune to repair). We are too big to go by road, but does anyone know of a shipping company prepared or able to take us on a cradle or lorry trailer??? any hints will be appreciated..........Phil & Sarah

Cant understand the "Going on the Bottom" Bit. Surely this is not the wisest way to travel!! Have you thought of sailing round on top!! Much more fun than going on a truck anyway. Ring a shipping agent. Some one will sort the transport out. Cant see it being cheap though.

No one can force me to come here-----------

Thanks Tony very useful...we spend about many months of the year on board and we are just about to move on permanantly. We have got a very stict timetable for the trip next year and need the reliability of knowing that the boat will be where we want it when we want...hence my request for any information. I can assure you that we do have lots of fun and do use the boat!!!!!

I don't know about transport, but I'm sure you will find somebody in the yellow pages type thing, remember, the height and width, may require police escort etc. which is going to cost. I would think you would enjoy the trip down, across biscay, whats her range? If you do some research into the weather, you can see when the nasty stuff is coming across the pond and plan accordingly, I did the trip and really enjoyed it! It's something to think about, 700 mile range would do it in a oner from Falmouth, with plenty in reserve if you have to run for it, think more in the 9-10 knot range. Hope this is a little helpful.

I don't know the overland prices, I also don't know how much a delivery skipper costs, never needed one, I deliver my own boat, I have delivered a few others, but that was on a friendship basis. I know a guy who would do it for him, cheap aswell.

sorry I posted in the wrong part of the thread. I meant why doesn't he consider a delivery skipper. I seem to remember your boat is already where you want it!

Re Overland delivery: Try ringing Brian Fenton on 01752 690373.His company transports large motor cruisers to and from Spain on a regular basis. Its not cheap but he is very good.I have used him to transport my yacht within the UK.

I used Carkes of in the borders to move my boat from the North of Scotland down to the south coast. They advertise in PBO and are a very proffessional outfit who arranged all the police escort buss as well.
Best of luck and see you down here when you arrive,
Mike

A delivery skipper is about 1500-2000 plus flight etc, fuel is approx 6000 plus addition expenses of moorings etc on the way. so it all adds up to almost the same as Dock express!!

Now I know why I own a sailing yacht - wow the cost of getting your small ship anywhere is prohibitive!
Pick your weather and enjoy the trip - it seems a shame if you have got to shell out so much money for you to not get the enjoyment out of it.
The yachting magazines have regular adverts for transportation but I suppose you have already contacted them.
Best solution - sell the boat and buy a beautiful sailing yacht and pocket the change. Sail it round for a fraction of the cost and enjoy your trip even more.
Good luck - whatever you do enjoy!
