Motoring light

Now that the mast is down I have decided to fit a motoring light, as up till now I have used a top of the mast all round white and pulpit light combo. So the question is where can I get one, and how do I make sure that the profile will fit on to the mast?

You don't have to
use a standard masthead light and one of these, you get them in both plastic (as in this picure) and aluminium.

You can easily make a mounting like the one illustrated in Knuterkit's link from a piece of aluminium and pop rivet to the mast.

I take it you have a separate stern light as you will need that if you use a "steaming light" rather than the all round white.

Personally I would not bother. Being less than 12m length why not just continue with the allround white + bicolour ?

Navlight's should be to regulation, it is also as important that you are seen.

I can understand wanting the option of a steaming light. It means you have lights lower down, this can be particularly helpful when approaching ports where a faster vessel may well be overtaking from astern. If you have only the mast head light up it can be hard to see from a bigger vessel...

If you decide to fit a light like the one in knuterikt's picture, think about getting one with a deck floodlight. They're a godsend when anchoring or picking up a buoy after dark.
