Imagine the scene....42' motor cruisers, husband and wife boat owners, plus 2-3 friends, gather on board at marina pontoon. Husband unhooks electricity to prepare for their voyage. Live lead drops into water. No noise or sparks, so assumes all is OK. Off they go. On their return that evening, they attempt to re-connect the supply. No joy. Much panic and near hysteria as the realisation dawns on them that the freezer might defrost. Forced to start up generator whilst the problem is considered. Leads are looked at and much blowing into plugs as if to give them the kiss of life. Sail boat neighbour berths his boat next door and plugs his supply in. Realising the the leccie has tripped, he calls the marina office and asks for someone to untrip the supply. Meanwhile, motorboatie types still blowing in plugs. Then, one them asks the sailboat skipper if he has "by any chance" a Philips screwdriver. Freely given, they return to the opulent grandeur of their cabin and begin to unscrew the plug.
I'm not sneering or even suggesting that all motorboaters are like this, but I couldn't help thinking that it seems almost unbelievable that someone would go to sea without even a screwdriver.
