One of the Motor Boat magazines which has ceased publication had a very useful section where virtually every Motor Boat sold in the UK was listed complete with price, length and who the importer/dealer was. Went to about 3 pages, hundreds of boats listed.
Which is what I could do with now as I consider my next boat.
Or is a Motor Boat magazine still doing it as when I go to the shop and see magazines which only have boats on the front cover which are suitable for millionaires I dont buy it as I know that the magazine will be devoted to super yachts.
What I am after is info about small Diesel Power boats, Drago, Ocqueteau, Karnic, Lema, Faerthon, etc.
Perhaps one of the present Motor Boat publishers might consider doing a list every 3 months.

I'm pretty sure that was in motor boat monthly but they stopped way before the end. I found it really useful too particularly when I was new to boats.

I assume you were not around on these forums when MBM ran the boat lists? Endless complaints of waste of pages. Thus is the problem all specialist mags suffer, you simply cannot produce a mag that appeals to everyone, every month.

It also suffered from the fact that it was never really the definitive guide to new boats, in the same way as What Car is the definitive guide to new cars, because the listings were incomplete and often incorrect. I wouldn't say it was a waste of pages just not the bible of new boat listings it set out to be. Having said that, I think there is room for MBY to do a similar guide say every 12 months or so but done more rigorously

An impossible task with too many variables.

The skills needed to collate was never the issue, the general reluctance and laziness of the industry to provide the information needed was the problem.

As you know this is not the car industry and never will be.

A sad indictment of the industry then. You would think that manufacturers would be falling over themselves to get their products into an authoritative listing supplement

No one wants to release a msrp and thats tied into the very heart of Henry's thread from a few days ago. I imagine that the delta of margin on two identical new boats could be as much as 20% depending on how distressed the stock is and the dealer/builder appetite to offload. That's make it very difficult and unappealing to publish a price.

Best way I can see to make it work, and it would be helpful to buyers and sellers at our level, would be to create an index away from the dealerships that shows the latest price paid for a given brand (new) and given brand (used). But that would be a serious hobbyist undertaking, magazine wouldn't be interested as it would be contradictory to their revenue model and dealers are too afraid to try....shame.

There is a similar page of info available if your signed into Yachtworld whereby dealers input the asking price and sold price of boats from there sold info, it's a way for them of keeping track what boats are selling for , which is valuable when both buying trade in stock, P X stock and advising clients what there boat is really worth on the open market.
I've sold my boat within the last month, I was lucky enough to know a broker who helped me be realistic on price , for example the last boat of my make , model and nearly the same year sold last Septemebr in the CI so vat to add if imported to the EU, I sold my boat for around that price attained last year and no more, more or less a perfect price for a new year buyer.
