I have a Volvo branded morse control. The 'neutral' button seems to stick a lot. A spray with wd40 gives temporary remedy. Is this a replaceable part or is the whole thing banjaxed

In my experience this problem comes from some slight corrosion on the inner circumference of the hole through the aluminium lever where the button protrudes. Take the handle off the splined shaft (grub screw on the under side of lever), roll up some emery paper and enlarge the hole a little.

I’ve dismantled and fixed a Morse, not a Volvo one and it is relatively easy. Price and check the availability of a replacement then dismantle and wing it to see if you can fix it. Best way to go.

BTW, WD40 does not fix stuff and can make things worse. It is a water displaced and not a penetrating lubricant. Anyway, sprays just mask a problem which needs solved.

Remove the red button as they can swell over time and replace although you can use them without red button
red herring !

Do you really think it's made by Volvo and not an OEM?

If not, identify the OEM. Seastar sell comprehensive spares for their ones, the SL-3 at least. I believe this range was formerly Teleflex?

Post pics and identify it.

Morse has become the generic name for marine controls especially single lever
the single lever with red buttons were originally made by TX and branded by Volvo amongst others

Its probably not too serious so before spending money I would suggest cleaning the components and then lubricating. WD40 can be useful as a cleaning solvent, which could explain your experience.

It's a single lever combined throttle and gear control.
The red button cover disappeared ages ago. It's the stub underneath that's left and it sticks.

I've taken to starting the engine by manually pushing the throttle link on the side of the engine as I crank it.

Is the lever servicanbe/repairable?

A little thread drift. I havd a single lever Morse control. It says Morse on it. There is a little bolt head, looks like it is for oil. Anybody any knowledge of what to put in it and to what level? Thanks in advance.

its a sealed unit and not designed to be repaired
some morse units can be worked on but not this TX unit
They were sold in 2 parts the mechanism and a mounting kit that included the handle if bought from TX or Volvo but vetus and Bukh. Sold them as complete units
the version shown is sail boat unit
later units had a bigger cover plate that allowed the cables to be fitted and the whole unit posted through the slot that meant you did not have to get in behind the cockpit wall
instal as the instructions say ensuring that throttle does not open until gear is selected

Well I'll try BabyYaga's approach before lashing out 200 quid for a new one.

It seems the remnants of the red plastic button were causing the button to bind in its hole. Removing these bits may have resolved the issue

I did undo the grub screw underneath the lever but this did not allow me to remove the lever!

having thought about it I do not think that the bolt head is anything to do with oil at all
I am not aware of any contract that requires oil

If I loosen the grub screw, the control lever comes off the splined shaft fairly easily.
