Would anyone have any objections to me using a Yuasa motorbike battery (they come in varieties up to 20AH) as back up for starting a Yanmar 1GM, and to thereby give a little peace of mind and satisfy ORC regs? Apparently these batteries hold their charge for a season or so and don't mind being upside down and so on. The plan is to have it aboard but stowed, and in the event of some misfortune draining the single main battery I then wheel out the baby one and wire it in.
Would it even start the engine? - I have to admit that this gubbins about Crank Quotients or whatever it is leaves me feeling like Basil Fawlty: all of a fluster. The little thing always starts after just one or two turns.
Indeed my understanding of these matters is so limited that I don't know what sort of charging the alternator on one of these engines provides: would it damage such a wee pile?
Thank you in advance for any advice
