Mooring For Sale Devon

Interesting!

A bit exposed there and the Exe. entrance is not exactly "all weather" but that would eliminate a major annual cost and help extend sailing way into retirement (financially speaking).

I wonder if it can be sublet as my current yacht is 3' too long.

These moorings come up for sale very rarely, so grab yourself a bargain...!!!!

Is it on Exe Bay?

A novel way of selling second hand goods...
How much is delivery to the West of Scotland?

Recently tried to get a mooring on the Dart. Not a chance (for 5-10 years anyway)...all controlled by the HM. Would not the situation be the same on the Exe? Buyer beware...

Interesting comment "These moorings come up for sale very rarely, so grab yourself a bargain...!!!!" as I am looking to move to the Exe and have a list four pages long of moorings for sale.

No he's perfectly at liberty to sell it. I have a mooring very nearby. Very different to the Dart. Price is approaching what I'd expect it to make, although to say they rarely come on the market is slightly inaccurate, there's generally quite a few for sale.
I've just realised I know the chap who's selling it, I almost bought the boat he had on it. Salt of the earth chap, a pleasure to deal with. His dive boat was a credit to him, he built it himself. We wanted to buy it but he'd promised first refusal to someone else and stuck to his word. Disappointed but respected his integrity. Also a regular volunteer in the local clubs work parties.

Of course it's all weather, a boat moored to it will be exposed to all weathers.

I would advise caution when considering purchasing a Mooring on the river Exe, as the Exe moorings are controlled by the Powderham Castle Estates and another authority (whoes name presently escapes me) for the lower reaches of the river.

As far as I understand, moorings from approx Starcross Club upriver come under the Powderham Castle Estates, who I have found are helpfull to enquiries about moorings, and will issue details, costings and a list of known moorings being offered for sale privately by leaseholders.

No probs generally, but as all moorings are monitored by patrol craft, best to play it safe.

Moorings often come onto the market, Yachting press and Internet sites (B&O, etc) sometimes with inflated prices asked. but generally readvertised at a more realistic asking price.

What you write is absolutely correct, the other mooring authority is LEMA (lower Exe mooring authority).
Not quite sure why one should exercise any more caution buying an Exe mooring as opposed to one elsewhere? Apart from the usual considerations of shelter, tide, depth etc.

Thank you LJS for your comments.

As I undertood it (when I enquired to Powderham Castle Estates) anyone offering for sale a mooring is actually selling the ground tackle etc and giving up any rights to moor in that spot. There needs to be an application for any prospective change in mooring to the Estate for their approval and payment of annual and other fees or the incomming Craft.
So I would suggest that prior clearance for any sale is first run past the Estate for their OK. There in lies my word of caution.

The Exe and the Teign can be difficult to enter especially with high seas.

I think you'll find that Powderham will be happy just so long as you pay them their dosh. That's all they're interested in.

:confused::confused:

well the River Exe mooring as offered for sale on Ebay has now reached £4600 so far!!

living locally, I know that these moorings are offered for sale privately between £300 - £1000, Powderham 'rent direct', prices are often lower than that!

lets hope that there are 'no tears' over the issue!
