We are to increase our mooring fees from 1.50 to 2.00 per ft and membership from 25 to 28 pounds per year, the boat fee to stay at 20 pounds, this means a 30 ft boat will now cost 108 pounds per year an increase of 18 pounds. Do you think this is reasonable for a mud berth on a tidal mooring? By the way we have a few vacancies.

CDYC Chepstow, on the Severn, Just below the old Severn Bridge, You can see details on our website, just type CDYC for pics

For the 2006 season I paid £153.90 for a mooring that can take up to a 9 metre boat and which dries "between 1.1metres and 2.5metres" Of that rather more than half went to the harbour authority as a "site fee" leaving somewhat less than half to the boat yard to cover all the costs of maintaining the mooring and the use of the yard for parking, dinghy storage etc.

The harbour authority also charges licence fees for both the boat and the dinghy.

I know there will be an increase of just over £4 in the site fee paid to the harbour this year but as yet I do not know the total.

How I wish I could talk in those figures. I have just paid £1596 for a trot mooring for the year for a 24ft boat. Then I have to pay harbour dues on top of this.

I thought our mooring charges were quite reasonable until I saw some of yours and on top of that we have to pay for lift in and lift out, thus doubling them up.

Must add, we have no lift out facilities but arrangements can usually be made at other points on the river. we also only have vehicle access at weekends. The work on moorings and pontoons is all self help, so everyone has to muck-in, if you know what Severn mud is like , it gives Mucking-in its true meaning.

On top of the mooring fee we do have to pay to have the mooring laid.

The mooring is off a beach so there are no facilities, but this is part of its charm. And there is a marina a couple of miles away where we can spend the night if we need a shower (!).

We keep the boat ashore over the winter, and with cranage this will cost another £500 or so.

The boat only cost £3500 so its bargain boating, but we love it.

Dear Crown Commissioners
There is a smart ar$e with an unlicensed mooring ......

Um No, it's more like........

Dear Crown Commisioners,

Thank you so much for maintaining the Free Port Status of our nice little town in Devon. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

FYI, it would take an act of Parliament to change it!

Like I said, Bummer Innit! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Market prices depend upon demand. If it's too much people vote with their feet (hulls?) R Severn is not the most convenient & attractive cruising area for large numbers of people. The prices clearly reflect that.

I pay around £8-900 pa for a drying swinging mooring in a beautiful location with not very good access. Moving this year to somewhere further away with better shelter & parking and slightly cheaper.

Um, I aint in the River Severn, only just inside the Bristol Channel. In fact Straight out from Bideford Bay is nought but the Atlantic, if ya just skim the ass end of Erie.

Bideford is a free port by Royal Charter, goes back centuries, so any resident of Bideford is entitled to moor their vessel free of charge. Given due respect to safe navigation of the harbour of course. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That's what the residents of Bute have been arguing with the Crown Commissioners for some time and their charter was from a native king, not some foreign import.

Aye, well we aint arguing about it, we is doing it, and the Crown Commisioners have nowt to say about it, because they know they are on to a loser.

Oh don't think the money grubbing twots on the local Council and the Crown Commisioners haven't looked at trying it on, but they all just get told to sod off. It aint even as if any of 'em provide any kind of service, they just want to hold their greedy little mits out, and have someone put some money in 'em.

It is increasingly looking like the Christy Estates have been scamming local boaters at Instow for a good number of years, by claiming rights to the beach at Instow, it is beggining to look like they have been lying! It is the subject of an ongoing investigation.

I suspect that a lot of the members of CDYC would be happy with that too!

For Birdseye, Probably, but this is not an option as we have to access the Pill via 3 fields and cross the railway line, bit of a bummer but there you go.no one else to do the maintainance chores. The skills are with the members Welding, JCB movement,Electrics, you name it someone will do it! Great bunch of members.

Well, as long as there are people willing to pay, there will always be people willing to charge! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
