Putting a mooring down in a freshwater Loch. It will have trip line to two posts on the shore. Have an idea how it works. Just wondered if anyone had any better ones regards do`s and don`ts. Where to use shackles and best methods of making dropper off main trip line to hold boat. It is a 17ft dingy.
I will use a chain from mooring to a buoy with running block 2 ft below. Standard practice is to put knots in rope to stop line against block. Surely there is a better way? Any input appreciated. It will be unattended for long periods( boat is happed)

We need some more explanation. I don't think moorings with tripper lines are very common, certainly not around here.

I presume your desire is to have a mooring for the dinghy where you can pull the dinghy into shore for boarding.

I imaginer you would have a normal mooring with a chain or rope up to the surface buoy.

I also imagine you would attach a pulley to the buoy with an endless loop of rope going to the shore so you can pull the boat out to the buoy or back in to shore.
If you have swing mooring such that boat can rotate 360 degrees and they do on a swing mooring then your keel is likely to foul the pair of ropes going to shore. To help this problem you might attach the pulley down below the surface with a rope going from the pair of control ropes up to the dinghy. The ropes will however come to the surface near the shore so may still be susceptible to being fouled or even someone pinching the rope.
Perhaps you could attach a weight to the rope that controls the pull out and have a movable weight sliding along the other rope so that the middle is held down to the bottom with a force more than the normal dinghy pull.

If you have fore and aft moorings then the problem is not quite so9 hard. olewill
