Moody 31 Mk2 - bilge keeler

I've got one and now in year 8 of ownership.
Not had to do any fixes beyond normal maintenance, I.e scraping, varnishing etc.
Can't really fault it, it can be a bit hard nosed with the 150% genoa but reef it early and it goes no slower and steers itself with a light tiller and is very comfy.
Great for cruising does not scare the family by sailing on its ear, I use mine for a little club racing and it's ok and often surprises me at its abilities to windward.
Can't really think of any negatives especially at the price you can pick one up for today.
Make sure you pick a tidy one as there are plenty to choose from.

Another biased owner (4 years ownership) :
Very comfortable and strong boat.
Bilge keels make for great versatility.
Not brilliant to windward in a strong blow, but very capable.

Get a good surveyor, because it will be > 25 years old by now.
Check baby-stay and shroud chainplates and P-Bracket.

And, as OldSalt says, join MoA. Good investment of £25.

Always thought build quality was good . Personally would be looking at size and age of diesel with a quality folding prop and history of re rigging . There seem to be a number in Chi marina so you might learn much by limeing around the pontoons and finding so local owners who will no doubt be happy to share knowledge.

Strangely, I have always thought mine goes far better to windward in a bit of rough than it should. I have good sails though.

Another happy owner and no plans to change after owning her for nearly 10 years. Updates have been the normal stuff any yacht would require. New sails have made a big difference as you would expect. Capable of sailing on wet grass we now seek out some of the more challenging locations. Keyhaven is a favourite and Wareham ticked off a couple of years ago, but with a half decent forecast the Channel Islands are 11 hours away.
