After 5 years of our beloved Princess 33, she is now sold and taken away on a low loader.
The good news is that I pick up Java Bean (Sealine F37) tomorrow. Many thanks to my understanding bank manager.

The weathers good so will be out in the Solent all weekend!! So watch out - Ill have the 'L' plates up.

Java Bean?

Unusual name, what's its origin?

Weather looks quiet for the weekend so should be perfect for using your new toy. Have fun!

Congratulations Alastair! I'm sure you'll enjoy her. Looks like the weather is going to be too good to miss for the time of year.

Next summer it really will be a Sealine Family cruise!

Cheers,
Rick

Re: Java Bean?

Java Bean is a term much used (pushed) by IBM'ers. Their UK head office is at the top end of Portsmouth mud.

Cut the boat through the middle, and if IBM will be blue all the way through.

On the other hand I could be talking absolute rubbish; quite probably. Could have been owned by a Kenco director....

Sailing her round from Eastbourne Graham. The rough plan is that we hope to get to Portsmouth Harbour (Campers) late pm but still light! Overnight there and be out to the Folly Sun lunch

Re: Java Bean?

I would guess that the previous owner was into I.T. in a big way.

(I.T. phobes ignore)
When Sun and the Java community tried to take on the mighty Microsoft, one of the ways they attempted to distinguish themselves as being "cooler" than the faceless suits was to apply a "coffee" theme to the intial batch of technologies. "Java Beans" was the name given to the component technology, where bits of code could be wrapped up and reused by others.

Of course, the coffee theme and the initial goals are all now lost in the mists of time, and the Java community is now riddled with as many, if not more, incompatibilities than MS, due to trying be all things to everyone, on all platforms (try installing Product A, that needs runtime 1.3.1_01 with Product B that only runs with runtime 1.4.1...).

Java: write once, runs somewhere, once.
(End I.T. phobes ignore)
