mmmmm thoughts : Nasa Wireless wind masthead unit talking to B&G Wind Display ?

Interesting ....

Update today ... the strong winds were forecast to reduce today - so we decided to take boat out for a daysail .... Baltic though - winds dies down quickly - but seas do not ... so it was a bit rough exiting the harbour ... waves up to and over 3m ... but once clear and further out - they reduced to 2m - 3m ...

The Wind and Tactic showed wind direction reasonably accurate .. port and stbd tacks .. with a speed showing in the small box ... BUT watching the speed - it became obvious - it was the boats water speed fed from the B&G speed log to allow TWS ... switching to AWS had zero shown and the direction then became erratic.
When we returned to mooring and boat was stationary ... on TWS - the direction failed ... on AWS - it was irregular ...

So we now know that the SPEED input to the display is the fault ... that direction shown fails due to the speed error.

When I have some more free time - have a possible travel again to meet Govt officials to set up Export Controls ... once I have the time - will be tapping those wires to see what is likely fault - cable or sensor.
 
Just occurred to me, have you posted a thread re this problem on Sailing Anarchy forum? They’re all very much into their B & G stuff over there (it’s predominantly a USA forum). If it’s your first post on there expect a few ‘wind-up the newby’ replies, but worth a try I reckon.

having had advice from the Electronics guy - will be trying his advice - then see what happens.
 
Resurecting thread ...

When boat lifted couple days ago - MHU was removed and we found one pin of the plug was broken off - corroded and left behind in the masthead socket.

Now I need to get a new MHU unit .. 283 or 496
 
FYI

I have networked all the info from the b and g network by wire to the Onwa display.

The onwa is configured and showing heading from head compass and speed through the water, and both wind speeds and direction and depth.

This in turn is sent by wifi to other phones, tablets and car stereo.

I prefer using opencpn on these for best collision avoidance!

Bloody eBay ....

Seller agreed to change listing to ship to Latvia ... tried checkout and eBay refuses to confirm saying Seller will not ship to Latvia ..

Spent ages on Chat to Agent (actually had a human !! not an AI bot) .. who said it could be fixed .... still not working.

Again with Agent who thinks Global Shipping setting .... confirmed - its something wrong with sellers setup on Global ... so will be asking him to edit. I'm lucky that he is being really good about this.

Do you know someone in UK that can buy it on your behalf and then send it to Latvia? If not I don’t mind doing it but you would need to transfer funds to me before I hit the buy it now button.
 
Hi Fred ... it is a thought ... I have sons in Portsmouth who can as well ...

At present waiting seller as to what he decides to do ... eBay agree that maybe best way is to UNLIST and then RELIST again ... to try fix the shipping error.

Really appreciate the offer. Of course I would not ask for anyone to buy for me without money up front.

EBay can be infuriating at times. Happy to help if need be.
