Having had a nice trip to Herne bay and thinking what a lovely place to launch a little Sib (Dingy to most of you lot) I posted such on a Sibbing Forum. I was told that Canterbury Council don't allow powered craft to be launched from any of their Beaches.... Basically Preventing people from accessing the Sea. Non Powered OK.

So you got to wonder if you did the following you could stuff one up the Bureaucrats.

1) Blow up your little sib and carry it to the Water.
2) Plop it in and have a little row around in your non powered Row boat
3) come back in and stop a few inches off shore in the sea (Not their jurisdiction)
4) Get her indoors to hold the boat just off the Beach.
5) Walk to your car and carry the little outboard over the beach as exercise.
6) Walk into the Sea and put the motor on the Sib. You are now in the Sea so nowt to do with them
7) Row out a little, Start the motor and off you go.
8) Reverse coming back.

Or you could just have the little engine in the bottom of the boat as ballast.

Unfortunately there are a lot of selfish morons about who would try and launch a motorised boat or jetski from a beach packed full of people and swimmers in the height of summer, without a thought for the possible hazards. As a result you get rules like this. I doubt your little ruse would wash if you got caught. How far to a the nearest slipway?

Well the Whole Sibbing Community don't like to shell out too much wonger to launch such a small craft.

If I did my little Ruse I am not so sure they would have much of a leg to stand on and also that is if anyone were there of course...

I have never bought into the whole too many idiots about idea... I don't think that actually happens very much. It is just another weapon for the whole lets control you lot Brigade of Parsnips

Unfortunately I have seen a lot of dickhe@ds over the years - especially on rivers and near beaches. Once saw a big twin engine ski boat at planing speed go through the centre of York. If one of the big tourist boats was turning or docking the idiot at the helm would have killed a lot of people. Jetskiers seem to attract a certain irresponsible self centred type as well. It only takes one muppet and someone gets killed. You would hope people would have more sense - but as we increasingly see, they do not.

I still firmly believe that you don't stop the Majority because of the conduct of the Minority.

Come on look for that Rebel inside :devilish:

Cornwall Council has the authority to create 4kt zones and no boat zones that stretch out to 250m from the shore, so I suspect the they will have similar authority on your patch.
It is the sad but age old story of the idiot few spoiling it for the rest of us.
I was having lunch at Cawsands, Plymouth Sound, a couple of years ago when four idiots came over from Plymouth way on jetskis and were roaring around just off the beach, doing polos/doughnuts amongst the moored and anchored boats. I took some photos and reported them to the harbourmaster. The particular joy of that was that it's the Queen's Harbourmaster, it being a military port. They don't mess around, what with armed police and the like. They caught them.

What about Birchington - used to live there and launched a speedboat there very often - once badly and lost the towing vehicle but that is a long story

If I remember rightly, UK local authorities' powers extend to the low water mark and include 'enclosed waters'. (Some may perhaps also be the harbour authority, I don't know.)

If you went beyond the low water mark (assuming not 'enclosed waters') I think you would be legally OK, and if you were sensible and went a little further offshore to be well clear of any bathers before fitting your motor, would also be complying with the spirit of the regulation.

I think it would be much more 'miserable' of councils to do nothing about the genuine danger and annoyance caused to bathers and other beach users by inconsiderate powered boat launchers.

Especially so since the former typically greatly outnumber boat launchers, and include small children and others who, unlike boat owners, can't be expected to be aware of the danger and annoyance.

You can launch from Neptune car park in Herne bay the crafts have to be reqestured with Canterbury council check out There slipway web site
Think once registered they probide the code for the pad lock
It does dry out at low water .

Enjoy

I think registering is £150 a year . The whole point of sibling is to go to different places add hoc. Getting involved with registering etc is not the idea of the hobby.

I see you have played the small children and health and safety card there. I will play the common sense card which should trump both of those ?
