mirror offshore stern gear

What sort of stern gland is fitted to a mirror offshore and how easy is it to get at?

Probably depends on what owners have done regarding upgrades over the years. At day one some had no stern gear and an outboard well....Maybe that's where Dylan had a glimpse of the future! However those that had stern glands probably had the normal packed glands of the era.

mine had a bronze one but it was replaced with a plastic one during major slug engine refit part 3

...........the films of replacing the cutlass gland are here .....
Cutlass gland?
Cutlass bearing, which is the water lubricated bearing accessible from outside
Or
Stern gland , which is the "seal" around the shaft and in accessible from inside

the early, (mk 1) one boats were ITYWF designed for an inboard diesel engine (md1)fitting an outboard may have been an option.
Mk 2 boats had a taller rig, more ballast and were normally supplied to be powered by an outboard.
I am not aware of them ever having an outboard well.

no he isn't

a peice of cake from the outside

it is a bugger from the inside

like making love to a woman through a letter box

Thanks for that Dylan. You're very patient. The video is great. I haven't tried making love through a letter box but I think I can appreciate the degree of difficulty. Stern glands are usually awkward to get at for maintenance and more so on a small boat.
BTW I've tried to view some technical videos on KTL but a lot of them are not available (even to subscribers).
